The PDGS Database contains over 300 documents on the subjects of democratic governance, security and civil-military relations. There are three ways to search this database: Thematic Search, Keyword Search, and Full Text Search. Thematic Search This is the most complete search of the database, allowing you to access information quickly and efficiently. PDGS has assigned a thematic classification (listed below) to each document in the database. If you know with specificity the type of information you are looking for, try this search first. It will allow you to combine a thematic classification with additional criteria, such as country, language and date range. The result will be a list of documents that meet your specific search criteria. |
Legal and Policy Instruments | Security and Defense Budgets | National and Regional Experiences | Academic Information | Civil Society | Library |
Keyword Search The second search tool is the Keyword Search. Every document in the database has been assigned several related key words. For example, you could search for documents related to a specific country (keyword “Spain”), subject (keywords “defense policy”), person (keywords “Kofi Annan”) or organization (keyword “NATO”), etc. Visit Keyword Search Help for a list of some common keywords. Full Text A Full Text Search is the type of search offered by most common search engines. This search allows the user to select a word or phrase (for example, “armed forces”), and will produce a list of all documents containing that word or phrase anywhere in the text. We suggest that you try this search last, because it is the least precise of the three. |
